The River Road Ranch Resort is located on a 30-acre ranch in Gillespie County just minutes from downtown Fredericksburg, TX in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Originally settled by the Metzger family in 1876, the ranch features beautiful Pedernales River frontage, century-old oak trees, and a variety of domestic animals and wildlife. The original hand-quarried stone house was erected in 1876, and at one point in its history, Admiral Chester Nimitz as a child played on its front porch. The house was restored in 2007.
The ranch has remained true to its origins while keeping up with the 21st century. Antique farm equipment, chuckwagons, buggies, and surreys are all displayed in their original settings and offer guests unique picture taking opportunities and history lessons. The ranch is also home to three miniature donkeys, a llama, an alpaca, sheep and goats, a pet turkey, and chickens. All animals are very tame and love to interact with the guests.
From the moment you pull onto the gravel road of the property, you enter another world. The long-grassed sloping meadow greets you as you climb the hill to the Old West City at the top. Large trees abound on the property to create a setting that is reminiscent of a painting of days gone by...a time when the world turned a little slower and people took more time to breathe and appreciate one another.
The Bunkhouse, the first of several unique guesthouses, offers everything that you, your friends and family will enjoy in upscale unique accommodations. The Silo, an original peanut silo that was brought to the property by the owners, has been restored to create one of the most unique bed and breakfast experiences in the state of Texas. Minna's Haus, built in 1876, is the original homestead on the property settled by German immigrants, and the Feed Mill is the perfect lover's retreat. Although each guesthouse invites you to step back in history, all the accommodations are very upscale and have all the conveniences of modern day living. Relax on the covered porches, stargaze, and reconnect with your loved ones. Enjoy sitting around the fire or cooking s'mores on the centrally located community firepits. Slow down and make memories that are worth keeping at the River Road Ranch Resort.
